| Grootspruit Pan is a 6.16-ha artificial farm dam situated on the privately owned Grootfontein property near Fouriesburg in the eastern Free State. The dam lies immediately southeast of the R26, near its junction with the S929, and adjacent to the meandering Grootspruit.
The wetland is unprotected and occurs on private agricultural land.
The recommended observation point for CWAC counts is from the roadside at the junction of the R26 and S929, which provides a good overview of the dam. Binoculars may be sufficient for counting under suitable conditions, although use of a spotting scope is recommended. |

| The surrounding agricultural landscape is dominated by grassland used for livestock grazing, with cultivated fields also occurring in the area. Riparian vegetation occurs along the nearby Grootspruit. |

Approximately 20% of the water surface is covered by algae and floating aquatic vegetation of currently unidentified species. Emergent vegetation is relatively limited, covering approximately 5% of the immediate wetland margin. |
