    Notes No tidal influence. Used telescope. Time of year when most of reserve is "drained". Dry, or very low water levels in all pans (i.e. dry in front of most of the birds hides) except main pan (viewed from towers and last bird hide). 3 hippo visible in main pan. Hyacinth cover extensive (spraying dry areas planned). Clear, warm, but wind picked up throughout morning; moderate-strong towards late morning. Large roost of gulls/ terns (hundreds), as well as waders (Little Stint (dominant), but also likely Ringed Plover, Kittlitz's Plover and others) in last pan. Birds too far to make out through heat haze (using scope); also obscured by reeds.
